Performance project by Angeliki Hatzi and Rosie Whitney-Fish
London 2007-2009
Seymour Cooper is an invented character; an alter ego between Rosie Whitney-Fish and Angeliki Hatzi. He exists through them and yet he never appears. His eccentric way of life is reconstructed by his inventors who then become his dual incarnation. The performers merge between themselves, characters and traits of Seymour Cooper’s personality. They perform the domestic eccentric lifestyle of Seymour Cooper together: they make tea, read, dress, think in unison. This new identity is brought to light and exposed to the public via the intimacy created through social encounters.
Through Seymour Cooper, Rosie and Angeliki are looking into identity and intimacy: they are trying to figure out who Seymour Cooper really is. whilst allowing the audience to enter his world and get closer in the intimacy of his private space.
By combining the elements of the everyday with dance, Seymour Cooper looks at transforming the mundane into a surreal world. The dances, which are no longer just a spectacle, are a vital ingredient in transporting the audience to this surreal world of Seymour Cooper.
Performances “A day in the life of Seymour Cooper” and “Passing time with Seymour” have included DUCKIE - The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, Underconstruction at The Bistroteque, The Camden People’s Theatre, The Macbeth Gallery, London, UK
